![]() Though it wasn't really their first release, Live In Color was a great way to introduce the band to a new and potentially larger audience. ![]() Shortly after, they teamed up with Tooth & Nail for KK's first full-length album, Becoming Who We Are, and it's easily one of the best releases from the Tooth & Nail brand (as well as in general) in a long time. Earlier this year, however, Kings Kaleidoscope announced a departure from the Mars Hill family (and, as a result, the Tooth & Nail family) and promptly teamed up with BadChristian Music to release a very impressive, impromptu EP called Live In Color. ![]() Just last year, BEC Recordings announced a partnership with Seattle-based Mars Hill Music, which meant exclusive releases for BEC from artists like Dustin Kensrue, Citizens (now called Citizens & Saints), and Kings Kaleidoscope. But rather than only being part of, I’d say King’s Kaleidoscope is leading a new movement and Becoming Who We Are is the paragon of creative, alternative worship music. King’s Kaleidoscope is leading a new movement and Becoming Who We Are is the paragon of creative, alternative worship music. In a recent interview, vocalist Chad Gardner said it has been tricky to market the band because they are “too wild to be in much of the CCM, worship world, but too gospel centered to be in the alternative world.” He also adds, “I like to think we’re part of a new movement.” I believe they saved the best for last in “Defender.” This studio version is faster and deeper than the live recording, and a pure celebration of “Jesus, our Savior, Defender, Redeemer.” “How Deep” is probably one of the coolest old hymns that they’ve pumped, beginning with simple piano and voice, slowly the instrumentation builds and fills out the song layer by layer and builds in power. I know I will dance and sing and bow before the throne I know I will run through Heaven’s brilliant streets of gold As soon as the chorus hits, you know that you’re experiencing something special. And a King’s K spin on Dustin Kensrue’s “Grace Alone” is another cool addition.Ī song I just can’t get enough of is “I Know, ” with its big gang vocals, an infectious beat, and brilliant instrumentation. I love the rawness and expression in the live versions, but the precise engineering and polish of being in studio brings out even more life in these tracks.Ī slightly different rendition of “All Creatures” from their Asaph’s Arrows EP also makes its way onto this album. ![]() This album includes studio versions of the Live in Color songs that were recorded and filmed live in one evening. īecoming Who We Are is an intriguing, exciting, and entertaining listen the entire way through. The band has already released 4 EP’s of wildly creative and innovative music, and Becoming Who We Are is certainly cream of the sonic crop. But King’s Kaleidoscope’s eclectic sound is the extreme opposite – they are a group of musicians fashioning masterpieces. When a genre-bending band is described as “organized chaos” and includes trumpets, strings, woodwinds and hip-hop beats alongside your typical bass, guitar, drum combo, you might be expecting some kind of experimental cacophony. King’s Kaleidoscope is a 10 piece band that melds multiple genres and styles in a manner unlike anything you’ve heard. Without a doubt, King’s Kaleidoscope’s Becoming Who We Are is an unforgettable 5/5! ![]() Then a group like King’s Kaleidoscope comes along… and it quickly becomes clear that they are in a world of their own. It sounds harsh, I know, and I can respect the worshipful heart behind the music, I can respect that someone is using their gifts and all that, but it just feels like it could be so much more. Sometimes, with a typical worship act I can get bored in about 37 seconds. Tooth and Nail Records artist King’s Kaleidoscope has just released their incredible full-length album, Becoming Who We Are. ![]()

![]() ![]() Super popular with dog owners, boaters, or in many cases both, these have real New England flair, are large, comfortable and very private, but super close to everything. These are a dedicated subset of the Cottages at Nantucket Boat Basin, an all-cottage resort set on piers right in the heart of the main waterfront, walking distance from the ferries (but they transport you with golf carts). Brian Sager Photographyīut you’ll need a place to stay, and it doesn’t get better than the Woof Cottages. To top it all off, the resort added tented open air beachfront cabanas for spa treatments, anticipating exactly what guests crave in these strange times.Ĭhilling outside the Woof Cottages is a big highlight at Nantucket's most dog friendly. These are set in separate beachfront buildings with their own exterior doors, the kind of private lodging everyone wants now. In an example of perfect timing, right around the start of the pandemic they unveiled a new level of luxury lodging, the Cove Suites, 2-bedroom residences with extensive indoor and outdoor living spaces, fireplaces, kitchens, and furnished decks. The concierge has a list of nearby pet-friendly walking trails, beaches and off leash parks, the resort has its own private beach welcoming dogs in off-season, and for the last week of the warm weather season each fall they close the resort pool to humans and turn the hounds loose for swimming fun at the “Pool Pawty.” Inn By The Sea is a member of the luxury Virtuoso travel network, so if you use a good travel agent you can get a lot of extras booking here, and its ultra-sustainable ocean to table Sea Glass restaurant is a New England standout. In a unique partnership with a local shelter, the house dog greeting guests in the lobby is always an available rescue and they are approaching 200 dogs placed with visiting guests over the years. That would be more than enough, but it’s far from the entire list. Inn By The Sea features a resident rescue dog to greet guests, and the program has placed nearly. The huge back lawn is similarly equipped with cozy Adirondack chairs staffed by servers bearing treats for humans and pups, water bowls and adult beverages. They offer dog walking and dog sitting and have an outdoor bar and restaurant deck serving both cocktails and full fine-dining meals where your dog can join you - and order off a gourmet pet menu. But Inn By The Sea does not have a fee even though complimentary extras include water bowls, beach towels, cozy blankets, and signature treats at turndown daily. The vast majority of luxury hotels welcoming pets charge an extra fee, and I don’t blame them, because there can (and should) be extra cleaning required, even if it’s just a lot more vacuuming. ![]() I have stayed at Inn By The Sea on three different occasions with different doggie children over the past two and half decades, and it has remained an exceptional example of the genre. ![]() If you are a hotelier considering a shift toward dog-friendly, this is the place you should visit to see how it is done. Inn By The Sea, Cape Elizabeth, Maine: I put this eco-friendly oceanfront resort just outside Portland first on this list, and it was not an accident. I will note that because I live in the Northeast, most of my dog stays have been in a drive market range from Montreal to the Carolinas, so my list skews that way, but there are other hotels on this list that I have visited without my dogs or know people I trust who have been with pets. The following properties - many of them Forbes 5-Star winners - excel at some or all of these second and third levels of welcoming and can fairly be considered among “The Best Dog Friendly” lodging. ![]() ![]() ![]() The standards for aerial lifts have been relocated from.
