My recommendation is use the transducer to locate good water depth and features that should hold fish and look for baitfish schooling and fish on your screen. The battery life on this transducer is awesome but it will zap your cell phone’s battery running the app. I haven’t noticed it scaring away any fish yet because I fish over water that is 20+ feet deep but if you were fishing in shallower water, that will be something to consider. You definitely don’t want your line breaking and a $200+ transducer flying away.Īlthough the transducer is lightweight, it does produce a fairly large splash when it lands. ![]() You do want to use heavier line and a stronger rod to handle the transducer. I usually get that device out about 50 yards or so without much trouble. The floating transducer is lightweight and easily castable. It has the versatility to be a great for bank fishing, as well as from docks, through the ice, off a jetty, and even from a small boat. It provides me more than enough detail and versatility to meet my bank fishing needs. There are less expensive models out there like the iBobber which is really good on a lower price point, but I like the Deeper Pro + better. This fish finder is for a bank fisherman who wants a high-value product that is versatile enough for all types of fishing but who either doesn’t own a boat or have the money for more expensive sonar or CHIRP boat-mounted systems. My favorite fish finder for bank fishing is the Deeper Pro + castable fish finder (check it out on Amazon to view current pricing). I know this is a bit random, but if you ever wanted to go on a guided or chartered fishing trip in freshwater or saltwater, you should check out Fishing Booker. These are the devices I wish I had access to 15 years ago when I was pond hopping, fishing off bridges, and sneaking around swamps after good fishing. I will also highlight five of the best fish finders for bank fishing so you can make an informed choice. ![]() This article will dive deep into how a castable fish finder can help anyone fishing from the bank, dock, marina, or shoreline find and catch more fish. The best castable fish finders for bank fishing are the Deeper PRO+ and the less expensive iBobber castable fish finders. Both of these devices are easy to use and offer very good accuracy at a fraction of the cost of a boat-mounted fish finder with a lot more versatility. What is the best fish finder for bank or shore fishing? The best fish finder-type to use when fishing from the bank or shoreline is a castable fish finder. Picking a great fish finder is what matters. Nowadays, there are some truly great castable fish finders you can use to quickly determine the fishing quality of a location along the shore. Quality fishing electronics are not only available for boat fishermen anymore. If you do any amount of fishing from the bank, shoreline, or docks, a castable fish finder can be a tremendous tool to help you catch more fish. ![]()

The hepatologist with whom you are working can explain where you fit in the scoring system. If your doctor thinks you present special circumstances that are unaddressed by the MELD/PELD system, the transplant center can ask the National Liver Review Board (NLRB) for an exception. Special Exceptions:For some liver conditions, a special exception can be made to raise the MELD/PELD score. Until 2002, time spent on the waiting list was the determining factor for organ recipients. However, today the MELD and PELD scores identify who is sickest and requires a liver first. In addition, blood type is also important in the matching process, and body type may play a role. Waiting Time: The waiting time for liver transplantation varies depending on how sick the individual is, which is usually reflected by their MELD or PELD score. Researchers have found that transplantation too early, at a low MELD score, can prematurely expose the person receiving the transplant to higher operative and immunosuppressive risks associated with the transplant surgery. The MELD/PELD system has reduced the number of deaths of people on the waiting list by offering livers for the sickest patients. The PELD score includes age, bilirubin, albumin, INR, and history of growth failure. For persons under the age of 12, the calculator is called PELD (Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease). Scores range from 6 (low level of illness) to 40 (gravely ill). MELD scoring also includes serum sodium levels. The scoring system is based upon blood tests for bilirubin, creatinine, and INR (International Normalized Ratio, also called prothrombin time). MELD/PELD: For liver candidates, UNOS has developed a scoring system called MELD (Model End-Stage Liver Disease) to determine the need for a liver. The investigation team shared with me their experiences from Joplin, including their professional challenges and personal reactions to this disaster. ![]() I have been fortunate enough to work alongside the CDC Mycotic Diseases Branch during the past few weeks while participating in an internship for my Master of Public Health degree from Tulane University. The CDC Mycotic Diseases Branch sent a team to Missouri to help with an investigation of a cluster of serious fungal skin infections that occurred among people injured in the Joplin tornado. This kind of medical conundrum is worthy of even House M.D. It’s not nearly as simple as it sounds there are thousands of germs that can cause an infection like this and many treatments to be considered. Then it becomes a mad rush for the medical team to figure out what is causing the infection. But when an unusual germ infects a wound, it can take days to notice that the standard treatment isn’t working. Because they are the usual suspects for types of wound infection, treatment for those infections usually begins right away. We’ve all heard of s taph infections, which can be extremely severe and hard to treat. The problem with these infections is that it’s not always everyday microbes that infect a wound. Unfortunately, the events that occurred in Joplin created the perfect environment for exposure to these pathogens, and some injured survivors began showing signs of an unusual wound infection. ![]() When residents are scrambling to protect themselves during extraordinarily stressful and frightening circumstances, there is no way to avoid getting a little dirt in your wounds, much less getting it out once it’s in there. Unfortunately, during a disaster, skin injuries are something that comes with the territory. Cuts, scrapes, burns, and even a splinter can allow pathogens to enter the body through the skin. A pathogen can be any living thing that causes disease, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or even other microbes like amoebas. This paves the way for germs-also called pathogens-which can infect humans when the body’s natural defenses are weakened. When people sustain massive traumatic injuries, it puts so much stress on the body that it becomes difficult to fight off infections. The physical and psychological damages the city of Joplin sustained are devastating, as was the traumatic injuries inflicted on many of the residents. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin’s main hospital, was directly in the path of the three-quarter mile wide tornado, with almost 200 patients and even more medical staff inside. The tornado damaged more than 7,000 buildings, one third of the city. Almost 160 people were killed and thousands of lives were completely uprooted. On May 22, 2011, an F5 Tornado ripped through the heart of Joplin, Missouri, a city of more than 50,000 people. ![]() ![]() To draw with pencil touch > " Pencil Tool ".Meanwhile, four other states in addition to Michigan - California, Kentucky, Montana and Vermont - either enshrined abortion rights or rejected constitutional restrictions on the procedure in November. This is a very well and carefully thought-out system where such basic items suddenly matter a lot. ![]() Inventory space is low, so farming is not an option and Gail is unable to stack foodstuff herself, which makes pre-stacked food a bigger commodity. Being able to map these snacks to a quick-select radial menu does help make the experience smoother, but it is not advised to ever eat when fighting an ancient robot. Using these curatives can be a large risk in and of itself since some consumables can take longer to eat than others. Some basic or raw ingredients can be eaten for small restoration but cooking the items at a bone fire (which has to be made with flint) is where Gail has to do QTEs in order to craft decent food to make big health. The food system is not that dissimilar to what The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did with cooking. Getting damaged becomes failure allowance since sometimes these battles can be pretty fast and using healing items leaves Gail wide open to be smacked down. Every first encounter is usually the learning phase where users get accustomed to patterns and how to be most efficient with windows of opportunity to land some hits. Patience and a calm mind win out in the most brutal difficulty spikes that lie with every boss battle. With so many tiny nuances to make fighting off threats more of a challenge, Phoenotopia: Awakening ends up being a really hard game. Even the ranged attacks are affected by gravity and Gail will have to compensate her shots to be able to strike true. Doing air-attacks are especially risky and not easy to land since the animations to do these are a few nano-seconds longer than expected. This is compounded by the stamina system that will leave Gail unable to attack, dash, or effectively flee for safety. Gail does have an unusually slow and delayed melee and an even slower charge attack, which does make the experience feel harder than it really is. There is no need for a map screen either, since the level design has carefully designed layouts and landmarks that make it easy to craft a mental map.Īnother pillar of retro game design is challenging action and Phoenotopia: Awakening honours this tenet admirably. What Phoenotopia: Awakening does well is stay true to the ethos of retro games by easing off on hand-holding, allowing players to discover at their own pace. Like a proper adventure game, she will acquire an assortment of accoutrements to help her overcome gear gates. She gets winded very quickly, can barely swing a club and hits like a sleepy grandmother. Gail begins her quest fairly out of shape. The most distinguishing characteristic of Phoenotopia: Awakening is its stamina system. The bulk of the experience is platforming and fighting a wide range of monsters, using any means necessary to survive. ![]() The overhead sections mostly serve to connect areas to each other and give the world a sense of place, while also having monster encounters that utilise the action platforming in a separate screen. Phoenotopia: Awakening alternates between two modules of play the overhead world-map and 2D action-platforming. Every trick in the book is used very effectively to enrich the world and add layers of authenticity. Other unobtrusive and clever means to explain some story details are the overall design of items or how they work like the crank lamp. What makes the iterative narrative work is the subtle cues of information and lore that is drip-fed in the background or in incidental text. The premise is simple (and admittedly tired) the hero's journey is in a fantasy world that is set in a post-advanced technological civilisation. The result is a game wrought with so much care and effort that it becomes infectious. More than just being fans, it seems like the designers also understand what worked and what did not. Phoenotopia: Awakening is made by passionate developers who truly loved The Adventure of Link. ![]() ![]()

Of course, this can take quite some time.Ī faster (and super fun!) method is to char them with a kitchen torch or over the flame of a gas stove. This was the crucial moment that would dictate if I’d enjoy this new “multi-character” direction or if I’d feel bummed I wasn’t playing as Kiryu, like how I felt while I was playing Judgment. Once Yakuza 4 begins, you don’t take control of Kiryu-chan, but some random fella named Shun Akiyama instead. If anyone was going to make this crazy idea work, it was them. But Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, the company behind the Yakuzafranchise, has some of the best storytellers in the business. Sega, being Sega, decided to think outside the box they had just assembled and opted for the latter two options at once. After the emotional ending from Yakuza 3, Sega had three options: finish the story where it was, find a way to include Kiryu in the middle of the over-the-top soap opera that is the overall plot of this franchise, or create a handful of new characters to see if the series could work without its grumpy poster boy. Revelations are back, and they’re still as ridiculous as always. ![]() |
